GGAF Heritage Arts 2010

Pensacola, Florida
How could this be anything but a favorite show!!?? It has the wonderfully gracious Paula Lou for a coordinator, her super helpful committee, our friends among the Heritage artisans, and....the beach!!
John was pleased and proud to win an Award of Excellence again this year. It was fun to see that everyone in the Old Christ Church row won an award, also: John's woodenware, French hand sewing and tatting, dulcimers, and hand made rocking chairs...well deserved, all.

The Heritage Artisans are a fun bunch of people and we are proud to call many of them friends.

As always, it's a pleasure to teach someone about the skill of woodcarving

and watching John seems to be a treat for the crowd as well.

Seeing young people buying a spoon to take home and use to learn the skills involved in cooking is always fun!

Deutsch Country Days 2010

John had a great day for carving!

What a beautiful weekend for an incredible festival. Deutsch Country Days is a unique German festival and it seemed that many new people came to enjoy it's special qualities this year.

It was interesting to meet new people who each had their favorite item!
However, it's also a lot of fun to have our repeat customers start bringing in the younger generation to start their own collection of wooden ware. The theme for this year's Deutsch Country Days seemed to be family. Mothers and grandmothers were shopping with some young ladies who are already becoming great cooks. There were Dads who were choosing little rolling pins, also.
We wish them lots of happy memories as they cook together.

This young woman was adding to her family's collection.

These promising young cooks were encouraged to start their own collections of wooden ware.

The wonderful grandma below was shopping with her granddaughters for a happy reason. Mom was home with a new baby brother. Congratulations to all!!

The Johnny Appleseed Festival

We were glad to be back at the Johnny Appleseed Festival in Ft. Wayne, Indiana! We look forward to the friendly crowds, the sound of the bagpipes, the firing of the cannons, and the smell of yummy stews cooking over open fires. Where
else can you look up and see "President Lincoln", "Johnny Appleseed", or some Patriots in your booth?

We like to visit with our many repeat customers at the Johnny Appleseed Festival. One young teen has been buying a piece of wooden ware every year since she was as tiny as this little miss, who is already an experienced cook but was using her discriminating taste to pick out her first rolling pin.

Old Threshers 2010

Old Threshers is a home show for us. Meaning that this is a show which is close enough that we sleep at home at night, that we have lots of family around, and that it is the first show we ever did.

John got to start teaching a new generation to carve.

Our booth always attracts a good deal of attention with young and old fascinated by watching John, John and a little one, sometimes a daughter or daughter-in-law, or one of our sons, at the carving bench.

These little ladies were fascinated:

I'm not sure how to best describe Old Threshers but if you get a chance to come to this you certainly should and you can expect to see and enjoy:

steam trains
steam engines
stationary steam engines
electric trolleys
draft horses
theater museum
doll museum
crafts
antiques
antique cars
antique carousel
antique printing presses
log cabin village
Snipe Run old town
Sweet Sixteen competition
Thresher's meals
electrical museum (begun by Vera Mae Weyer and the late John W Weyer)

ArtFest Midwest

ArtFest Midwest in Des Moines, Iowa is a favorite show of ours. It's very well organized and is a rare indoor show for us, so we're weren't disturbed by the morning thunderstorms.
John was honored to be selected again as a Demonstrating Iowa Artist.

Thanks to Sue Stookey (in pink) for a successful show!

Lt. Gov. Patty Judge (center, in blue) spoke at the ArtFest this year. She's a big supporter of the arts and she took time to visit almost all of the artists.

It's always fun to help a customer select her first piece of woodenware. This little lady certainly has "good taste". :-)

Snake Alley Art Fair

Snake Alley Art Fair 2010

This show is on Father's Day each year and so for us, as for many in the area, it is a family day. This year we were pleased to be joined by our oldest son and his little boy. Here's a photo of three men named John Weyer! :-)
The weather was quite hot (isn't it always at Snake Alley?) and very humid. We were, however, spared the predicted morning and afternoon thunderstorms as they came before the show and later that night. We enjoyed visiting with our customers and friends. It seems that everyone in the region must come to Snake Alley. :-)
John was very pleased to be honored with the Committee Spirit Award. Thanks to John J for the photo below.

Brrr! Beaux Arts in Davenport

It was a very chilly weekend for Beaux Arts, with Saturday beginning with temperatures in the upper 30's. The wind was very strong and the sun stayed hidden. Lots of brave folks came out to see us, however.

Although Mother's Day was sunny and calmer it began with a temp of 35 degrees! It soon warmed up and was a very nice day for shopping.

Riverbank

We did our first show, Riverbank, in Iowa City. The weather wasn't the best but we moved inside where we were dry and warm. We were excited to find that our neighbor was our niece, a jeweler.

Our customers seemed happy with our selection. It's always hard to choose. You have to check out a lot of spoons to get one that's just right.
